Zierikzee used to be one of the most important cities in Holland during the middle ages due to its location in the North Sea, where trading was most active then. Part of Zeeland province, it is no longer the center of trade but a popular tourist destination because of its historic past. Zierikzee has no railway connection and can be reached by car or by public bus. To reach Zierikzee, you have to pass the 5km long Zeelandbrug (bridge), which gives a stunning view of the sea and a Dutch engineering marvel. The city also has one of most number of monuments around the Netherlands.
